Day 1: Mon 04-06: Rybniky - Beroun - Krivoklat
The day has come again: 1 year after the last tour to France the bike was packed with supplies again.This time the destination is the Baltic Sea.
Even if it was a little bit rainy I was very much looking forward to the trip  .. and off I go.
Und so war es wieder mal soweit: ein Jahr nach der letzten Tour in den Süden Frankreichs mußte es wieder sein. Das Rad war gepackt, diesmla solte es an die Ostsee und zurück gehen.
Ach wenn es ein bisschen regnerisch war, so war ich doch voll Spannung und Unternehmungsgeist .. und ab geht's. Erstmal nur 10 Meter, dann rief der erste Kollege aus dem Büro an. Vergessen das Handy abzustellen :-)
On my way North I wanted to avoid crossing the city of Prague - even at the cost of an additional day - so first I headed west to the city of Beroun. Here you see its city hall and it's historic city tower, both nicely renovated within the last 10 years
Auf dem Weg nach norden wollte ich eine Durchquerung von Prag vermeiden - auch wenn das einen Reisetag mehr bedeutete, so fuhr ich erstmal nach Beroun.

On I go direction of Krivoklat. This is the castle of Nizbor, sitting on top of a little hill and currently under renovation.
Weiter geht's Richtung Krivoklat, meinem ersten Tagesziel. Das am Bild ist die Burg Nizbor, auf einem kleinen Hügel und wird gerade renoviert
Now here is something which you often find in the Czech Republic. These seem to be monuments or memorials with religious background or not; you find them on crossroads or just besides the street or in a field; often nothing tells you what this thing was built for or when. Some of them are old, some almost falling apart, some renovated and like new.
We will see more of them .....
Das auf diesem Bild ist etwas, was man sehr of in der Tschechischen Republik findet: Denkmäler oder Gedenksteine, manchmal mit offensichtlich religiösem Hintergrund, ein andermal nicht; und meistens gibt es kein Schild das einem sagt wann das Ding gebaut wurde oder wofür.
Manche sind alt, manche zerfallen fast schon, andere wieder sind wie neu.
Wir werden noch mehrere davon sehen

Day 2: Tue 05-06: Krivoklat - Smecno - Slany - Velvary - Melnik - Libechov
New day, new impressions - this one is the Chapel of Eustach, which is not far after Krivoklat
Bald nach Krivoklat kommt ein kleiner Rastplatz mit der Eustach - Kapelle
But no idea what this one stands for, I just liked it. I hope nobody gets the idea to remove the grass and the plants, they are part of it's charm !
Hier wieder ein unbekanntes Denkmal. Ich hoffe es kommt niemand auf die Idee den Bewuchs zu entfernen, wäre schade um den Charme des ganzen
Next stop was Smecno with it's old castle which nowadays is used as sanatorium
Die nächste Station war die Stadt Smecno mit ihrem Schloß das heute als Sanatorium verwendet wird
Passing through Velvary; above you see pictures of the church and a detail of it's cementary wall. Down is a column standing on the main square
Es folgte die Durchfahrt durch Velvary mit Kirche und einem Detail aus der Friedhofsmauer. Unten eine Säule am Hauptplatz
The well deserved end of the day was the camping ground in Libechov close to Melnik
Der Tag fand sein verdientes Ende am Campingplatz in Libechov, nahe Melnik
Day 3:  Wed 06-06: Libechov - Duba - Jestribo - Zakupy - Jablonne - Zittau
The first thing I saw the next day was another one of  these memorials. Obviously built a few metres lower before the new road was there, grass now growing out of its roof
Das erste was ich am nächsten Morgen sah war wieder eins dieser Mäler. Offenbar gebaut lange bevor die neue Strasse da war, verschwindet es jetzt einige Meter tiefer.
After Libechow I drove along a really nice and calm road, nearby a river, partly through woods, from time to time passing small villages. This here is the church of Medonosy
Ab Libechov fuhr ich eine beschauliche und ruhige Strasse Richtung Norden. Es gin an einem Fluß entlang, manchmal durch Wälder und hin und wieder durch kleinere Orte. Das hier ist die Kirche von Medonosy
The next was a village called Duba Destna; here the church with it's cementary. Renovation works are just starting and I didn't know if i should be happy about that
Der nächste Ort war Duba Destna, hier die Kirche mit dem Friedhof. Renovierungsarbeiten beginnen gerade und ich war mir nicht sicher ob es nicht auch irgendwie schade um diese Atmosphäre ist
Coming close to the hills towards the German border, the style of houses changed. Look at the decoration ! This is close to Zakupy.
Im Hügelland zur Grenze nach Deutschland verändert sich der Stil der Häuser und ihrer Dekoration. Hier in der Nähe von Zakupy

After crossing a few hills I arrived in Zittau, first city in Germany. The camping ground is located next to an artificial lake. It was a coal mining area before, it was flooded it and now it's a leisure area. There is still an open air exhibition of the machines they used some years ago.
Nachdem ich einige Hügel überquert hatte landete ich in Zittau, erste Stadt auf der deutschen Seite.
Der Campinplatz ist neben einem künstlichen See wo früher Tagebergbau betrieben wurde. Ein paar der alten Maschinen sind immer noch ausgesetllt
Day 4:  Fri 08-06:  Zittau - Hirschfelde - Ostritz - Görlitz - Rothenburg
Now I entered the "official" bicycle Path Oder - Neisse which leads from the source of the Neisse along this river, then along the Oder, always along the German-Polish border and finally to the Baltic sea
Hier betrat ich also den "offiziellen" Oder Neisse Radweg entlang der Deutsch-Polnischen Grenze bis zur Ostsee.
Dieses Schild war mein Begleiter während der nächsten Tage.		 A first impression of the Neisse - still more creek than river

Well they are not always very easy to find ... do you see it ?
Ich erwähnte vorher die Schilder die den Radweg kennzeichnen ... naja, manchmal muß man halt ein bisschen genauer schauen

Für mich ein bisschen ein ungewohnter Anblick: alle paar Meter ein Windpark.

Day 5:  Sat 09-06:  Rothenburg - Bad Muskau - Zelz - Forst - Guben - Bresinchen
The day was calm and just to enjoy biking: nice wheather, no traffic at all and from time to time a place where to relax and drink something
Es war ein sehr ruhiger und entspannter Tag: Perfektes Wetter, kein Verkehr und ab und an ein netter Platz zum Einkehren
Day 6:  Sun 10-06:  Bresinchen - Neuzelle - Eisenhüttenst.- Frankfurt -  Kienitz
The sign of the day - often there were roadworks to repair the way. So at then end of the day, instead of the planned 100 kms there were over 130 .. the most ever !
Das Zeichen des Tages - zeimlich oft mußte ich den Weg wegen Reparaturarbeiten verlassen. Am Abend hatte ich dann statt der geplanten 100 km 130 am Tacho ... persönlicher Rekord !

Das hier ist ein recht typisches Bild vom Oderdamm.
Km um Km, Stunde um Stunde, man ist hier ziemlich alleine mit sich und der Natur !
From time to time there is something to see ... be it  an old factory or a little town
Von Zeit zu Zeit gibt's ein bisschen Abwechslung: mal ein aufgelassenes Kraftwerk, mal eine kleine Stadt
On top and below some more impressions of the day. By the way, about these mussels: people living there told me that birds are clever enough to get the mussels out of the river, then they fly over the asphalt of the path, let them fall and pick out the meat
Oben und unten ein paar mehr Eindrücke des Tages. Übrigens, diese Muscheln: Leute die dort wihnten sagten mir die kommen von Vögeln, die intelligent genug sind die Muscheln aus dem Fluß zu fischen, dann fliegen sie über die Strasse und lassen die Muscheln auf den Asphalt fallen ..
The day ended in Kienitz where the owner of the local pub offered me a place in his garden to put my tent. ...and some noisy neighbours :-)
Der Tag endet in Kienitz wo ich auf der Wiese des Gasthofs mein Zelt aufstellen konnte. Bis auf die lauten "Nachbarn"  war auch alles ok
Day 7:  Mon 11-06:  Kienitz - Hohenwutzen - Gartz
I started early next morning again to avoid the heat ... obviously not the only one who had this idea
Am nächsten Tag gings wieder frühmorgens los um die Hitze zu vermeiden ... andere hatten anscheinend die gleiche Idee
Above a few typical views of the day ... the bridge is a closed railroad bridge which crossed the river to Poland in earlier days
Oben ein paar typische Ansichten des Tages ... die Brücke ist eine geschlossene Eisenbahnbrücke die früher mal nach Polen führte
For short parts the path was "old style"  .... not the most comfortable version for a cyclist
Ein paar kurze Stücke ist der Weg noch in altem Zustand .... nicht der bequemste Belag zum Radeln
Who the heck should understand something like this one ?
Wer soll sich da noch auskennen ?
Day 8:  Tue 12-06:  Gartz - Starkow - Retzin - Löcknitz - Albeck - Ueckermünde
This is the church of Lückow, a very nice style I think.
And did you ever see a church with tables and chairs inside ?
Die Kirche von Lückow, fand ich sehr schön.
Und ausserdem hatte ich noch nie Tische & Sessel in einer Kirche gesehen
Finally there it was: The Lagoon of Stettin ! No "sea" yet, but only one more day ...
Und dann hatte ich es geschafft: hier das Stettiner Haff, jetzt ist es nicht mehr weit zum Meer ... morgen ist es soweit !
Day 9:  Wed 13-06:  Ueckerm/Grambin - Anklam - Usedom - Ahlbeck - Usedom
Before reaching the sea I had to cross some kind of moor;
a part of the country where you are not sure if is is still land or already water .... something in between
Bevor ich zum Meer konnte mußte ich noch durchs Moor .. Eine Landschaft wo man sich nicht sicher ist ob man noch am Land oder schon im Wasser ist
A short stop at the bridge of Zecherin ... ok, also ships want to pass, and if it's only a small one !

And finally there it was: Ahlbeck, I had reached the sea !
Und endlich war ich da: Ahlbeck, ich habe das Meer erreicht !
